How Long Do Coffee Beans Stay Fresh?

One of the questions we get asked most often is how long coffee stays fresh.

The simple answer is that coffee is best enjoyed within a few weeks of roasting, but it won't suddenly go bad after that point.

Freshly roasted coffee changes over time. In the days immediately after roasting, the coffee releases gases that build up during the roasting process. After a short resting period, the flavours begin to settle and the coffee reaches its sweet spot.

For most coffees, you'll get the best flavour within the first few weeks after roasting. During this time, you'll notice more sweetness, better aroma and a more balanced cup.

As coffee gets older, it gradually loses some of these characteristics. The flavours become less vibrant and the aromas begin to fade. This doesn't mean the coffee is undrinkable. It simply won't taste as good as it did when it was fresh.

The best way to enjoy coffee is to buy what you'll use within a reasonable period and store it correctly between brews.

At Trá Coffee, we roast regularly in small batches so our customers receive coffee at its freshest.
